Open letter to Mayor Meeker concerning the median on Wade Avenue at Filmore

While not normally a squeaky wheel, I sent this e-mail as a follow up to a previously sent and unacknowledged one concerning the intersection I have a great view of from my office. If you'd like to add your voice to the concern, Mayor Meeker's address is below

.... David

Morning- having never received a response to this earlier mail (below), I'm sending it again to ask who I might contact about getting barriers placed along this stretch of Wade. Commander Poteat recommended a contact in transportation, but I was unable to connect with him.

As expected, with the activity around the Glenwood Bridge, the rate of personal vehicles and also official and contractor vehicles climbing across traffic over this low median has increased to about one every 30 minutes to an hour.

It's only a matter of time before someone gets injured or killed. Simple vertical, tubular, barriers would prevent this activity.

Thanking you in advance for your attention to the matter,

David Johnston

I haven't a clue who to "officially" report this to, so I figured I'd send it straight to you and let you or an admin route it. I've asked the powers that be previously to try to crack down on the number of people who frequently turn LEFT at the end of Filmore Street onto Wade Avenue *over* the median there.

We live in the house immediately adjacent to that intersection and my office overlooks the area. On more than one occasion, I've heard brakes screaming as some idiot decided to flaunt the obvious and go this route.

I'm writing now because I just witnessed two Raleigh Parks & Recreation bucket trucks (one license plate read 32331-S) do the same thing. At lunchtime rush hour (12:30 on a Wednesday).

If people are to take the actions of those representing the city as an indication of what they are able to get away with, what kind of an example are these people setting?

Sincerely,

David Johnston
