NEIGHBORHOOD LURKER Document: "Tips to reduce the chance of burglary" Just wanted to alert folks to someone who my husband and I thought to be suspicious. We live at 817 Clay Street (directly across from Fred Fletcher Park’s Garris Building). At about midnight last night (5/19/2004) we noticed a 6 foot tall, white male, shoulder-length gray hair and a beard, around 40 years old walk out of the park and slowly walked toward our house and our neighbor’s house. He then hid behind some bushes in between our two houses for a little while and seemed to be lurking around checking things out. So when he came out from the bushes, my husband ran outside to confront him. We had already called the police to send a squad car to check it out. My husband asked him what he was doing and to not lurk outside our house. The “lurker” told my husband he was just down on his luck etc. He told the guy that the police were on their way and if he had nothing to hide, then to just tell them what he was doing there. The guy ran off into the park, my husband ran after him, and finally was able to get the guy’s I.D. We gave this to the police, and he is not from this neighborhood, but he has no record on file with the police. Just someone to look out for. I think he was scoping out the house next to us because there was no-one home at the time.
