“The LIVABLE STREETS Downtown Plan”
BRINGING LIFE AND LIVING BACK TO THE STREET
Over the course of almost a year, citizens of the city of Raleigh have shared and refined their vision of what they would like downtown to be, as well as ideas on how we can get there. The Livable Streets downtown plan involved a partnership of more than 400 persons participating in six monthly topic oriented work sessions held from September 2002 to February 2003. Ideas were received through postcard responses, essays and messages sent by mail and by email, through group discussion, drawings, and thoughtful priority setting at multiple Livable Streets work sessions and at Steering Committee meetings with a variety of targeted stakeholder groups. These ideas were knitted together at the February 2003 charrette into a series of approximately 130 Actions and Strategies in 12 topic categories and focused into a targeted five part Action Plan. The goal is for many of these items to be addressed as progress is made during the next five years as we undertake the Livable Streets downtown plan.
Please plan to attend this public hearing and express your thoughts about this very significant effort for the downtown area, the heart of our Capital City.
Don’t forget to check www.raleigh-nc.org and select the “Livable Streets” downtown plan item on the City web page. Public Comments to-date including summary comments from each work session, school children’s artistic ideas and the Thinking Outside The Box work session maps are included.
A copy of the full 40 page DRAFT document will be placed on the Web Page Thursday April 10 and available for viewing either Thursday or by Friday the April 11th.
The Livable Streets Plan presentation to the public on February 27 during the Third Annual Downtown Forum is being telecast on the Capital Connection, Time-Warner Cable channel 11, the City of Raleigh’s government programming channel.
