Public Hearing for Amendment to Fletcher Park Master Plan

FLETCHER PARK MASTER PLAN AMENDMENT PROCESS TO BEGIN WITH PUBLIC MEETING ON MARCH 10
The City of Raleigh will hold a public meeting on March 10 to begin the process of amending the master plan for Fletcher Park. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the park’s Garris Building.

Fletcher Park is a 21.36-acre neighborhood park located along Glenwood Avenue and Washington Street near Broughton High School. The park offers both passive and active recreational opportunities, with tennis and basketball courts, a ballfield, walking paths, open areas, gardens, picnic shelters and two historic buildings used for community activities. The City primarily owns the park. Wake County owns an adjacent large multi-purpose football/soccer field on St. Mary’s Street.

Residents in the Fletcher Park community are requesting that a permanent playground and an off-leash dog area be included in the park’s master plan. The playground would replace an aging swing set. The purpose of the March 10 public meeting is to gather initial community input and reaction to the proposed master plan amendment. Based on this input, a design may be developed to incorporate the amendment’s items into the master plan. The proposed design draft will then be presented at a second public meeting, now scheduled for 7 p.m. May 12 at the Garris Building. The draft design would be forwarded to the City’s Parks, Recreation and Greenway Advisory Board for approval and subsequently to the City Council for formal adoption.

Meeting notices about the Fletcher Park master plan amendment process will be posted at the park and other locations, as well as on the City’s website at www.raleigh-nc.org. Also notices will be mailed to all property owners and registered community groups in the Fletcher Park area.

For more information, contact the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department at 890-3285, or visit the department’s website at www.raleigh-nc .org/parks&rec/park_planning.asp to view Fletcher Park’s current master plan, meeting minutes and the amendment process schedule.
